Great Circle (大圓) 是什麼?
簡單黎講，就是地球上的兩點之間的最短距離，而飛機的飛行路線亦都是based on呢個Great Circle黎飛。 因為~個距離愈短~就愈快~愈慳油~咁就又慳錢又環保~
Great Circle有以下特性:
Plane cut through centre
Same radius and circumference
Cut sphere into 2 equal halves
Shortest distance between any point on the earth
而地球上所有的經線(line of longitude)都是大圓線(Great Circle) 因為每條線都會穿過 the centre point of the earth which is the poles，緯線(line of latitude)則只有赤道(equator)是Great circle。
而Great Circle點解叫great circle，係因為唔會有其他圓畫出黎係大得過佢，所以佢最大，就叫great circle 啦。
咁small circle 又是什麼?
好簡單，就是任何圓形在地球表面而不是Great circle，就會叫佢做small circle。
咁 Rhumb line又是什麼?
Definition: a line on the earth’s surface cutting all meridians at the same angle. (constant azimuth)
如果我地跟住rhumb line咁飛，就可以keep住同一個heading，又去到我地個目的地，不過個距離相比起 great circle就會長左 (except你係fly along with equator and line of longitude，因為佢地既是 great circle又同時是 rhumb line)
咁雖然我地會跟great circle咁飛係最有效率，但現實上都好多限制。
例如：
我地用既導航系統VOR/DME需要由一個station飛去另一個station，未必做到真正的great circle，仲有ETOPS既限制，地形限制，有時遇上惡劣天氣，空管限制等等......
咁就會令到本身的路線deviate左， 唔會係一個完完全全ideal既great circle~
